Please notice the two primary 4 page contracts located above (see docs A). First, you will encounter HMI and through their online profile or in person via marketing, often with misleading statistics on the match rates and USMLE passing rates for both medical schools. If you contact either school directly, you will be told that all US and Canadian students must apply directly through HMI. This runs in direct contradiction to polish law, which we will go into more detail over the phone (see doc D). If you notice these 4 page documents, they are identical, except for the name, school, and application fee amount. This fee is the first fee HMI collects from students before entering Poland, which ranges from 700$ up to 10,000$. HMI also included a mandatory event held in Virginia, which is not mandatory if you are not required to apply through a 3rd party. The other number that is inflated in these contracts are the tuition amounts. At MUS, these documents claim the tuition is 10,500$, at Lublin, they claim a higher amount 12,443$ (see doc B). The actual tuition for both schools (which is registered with the Polish government) is actually much less. All international students attending both schools pay the same tuition, except for students forced to apply through HMI. The additional fee is taken from your student loan funds every semester 3700$ for MUS, 4500$ for Lublin. Once students travel to Poland, both schools force students to sign a convoluted power of attorney contract (Doc C), which gives each school the right to take your student loan money and direct it to HMI every semester. Failure to sign these contracts will result in a dean or school official threatening the student with exclusion (which happened to a student attending MUS in 2014). I also included a copy of the HMI clinical contract which results in further unnecessary costs for students who are pressured into US clinical rotations (doc E). Please note that completing rotations in the US are not a mandatory requirement for matching into residency at a US hospital. For further information, please call the number on the website.
